What is a cyst?

A cyst is a slow-growing pocket under the skin that can contain fluid, pus, or air. Most commonly presenting as epidermoid or sebaceous cysts, they often appear as firm lumps on the face, neck, chest, back, or scalp.

While the majority of cysts are benign and harmless, they can grow over time, become infected, rupture, or cause physical discomfort. Many patients choose cyst removal surgery if the lump becomes inflamed, catches on clothing, or causes cosmetic concerns. Because cysts can occasionally mimic other skin conditions, getting a professional assessment is highly recommended.

  • Benign lump that forms under the skin
  • Caused by blocked sebaceous glands and sebum buildup
  • May become painful, inflamed, or infected

Professional Cyst Removal Treatment

Your cyst removal journey begins with a thorough clinical assessment to confirm the type of cyst and determine the best approach. Our experienced clinicians will clearly explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have.

A cyst removal surgery is typically performed as a minor outpatient procedure under a local anaesthetic, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout. The clinician makes a precise incision to carefully remove both the contents and the lining of the cyst which significantly reduces the likelihood of recurrence. The area is then closed with fine stitches to support neat healing and minimise scarring.

The procedure is usually quick, and most patients can return to their normal daily activities shortly afterwards. We also provide comprehensive aftercare guidance to support your recovery and ensure the best cosmetic outcome.

Why have Minor Skin Surgery?

FAQs

If you can’t find the answer you are looking for here then please get in touch

Cohese Healthcare is not a GP Practice but as an NHS partner, we organise clinics in GP Practices that mean people do not have to travel and attend hospital.

Please allow up to 1 hour for your appointment. This will depend on any investigations that you may require. We ask that you attend 10 mins before your appointment time. You will be given any specific instructions in advance of your appointment.

If you are having an ultrasound scan, this will be carried out by a Sonographer. You may also see a Urology specialist who will discuss any test results and treatment options with you. They are supported in clinic by experienced Healthcare Assistants.

Yes, full payment is required in advance to confirm your appointment. You’re welcome to make multiple smaller payments at your convenience. Once the total amount has been received, we will proceed with securing your booking.

If you plan to claim the cost of your procedure from your private medical insurer, we advise getting prior confirmation from them in advance as full payment is required at the time of booking.

Lipomas larger than 5cm cannot be removed by our service. However, if you send details via the enquiry form, including 2 images of the lesion that that you would like removed on, our surgeons can let you know if removal will be possible in our service.

You will receive a consultation summary with details of your consultation; this will also be sent to your GP. If you are referred for further investigations, we will send you a letter with the relevant contact details.

Yes, you will be able to drive following your procedure unless you have had surgery close to your eyes. We would advise you to arrange to have someone to drive you home if this is the case.

It is very likely that you will be able to have a lesion removed. Your surgeon will ask you about procedures you have had previously and they will then be able to discuss what you could expect if you were to have your skin lesion removed.

You can eat and drink normally before your appointment. If you wish to bring a drink or snack with you to your appointment, please do so.

The cost of your private cyst removal depends on factors such as the size of the cyst, its location on the body, and the complexity of the removal. During your initial consultation, we will provide clear and transparent pricing, so you understand the exact amount of investment before proceeding with your cyst removal surgery. Our goal is to provide safe, affordable medical treatment with no hidden fees.

No, the area is completely numbed with a local anaesthetic before the cyst removal begins, so you should not feel any pain during the procedure. Once the anaesthetic wears off, you may notice some mild soreness, tenderness, or slight swelling, but this typically settles within a few days and can be managed with standard over-the-counter pain relief.

Choosing a regulated clinical provider for cyst removal is vital for a safe diagnosis and a successful outcome. Attempting to remove a cyst yourself can lead to severe infection, scarring, or incomplete removal meaning the cyst will simply fill back up.

At Cohese Healthcare, all procedures are conducted in a clean, regulated medical environment. We provide:

  • Qualified medical practitioners
  • Clear diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Convenient booking options
  • Transparent self-pay pricing
  • Full supportive aftercare
