You may have been asked to complete a bladder diary recording your fluids in and out for 3 days or been advised to come to the clinic with a full bladder, which is important for some of the tests you may require. It is really important that you follow any instructions but please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
If you are having an ultrasound scan, this will be carried out by a Sonographer. You may also see a Urology specialist who will discuss any test results and treatment options with you. They are supported in clinic by experienced Healthcare Assistants.
Please allow up to 1 hour for your appointment. This will depend on any investigations that you may require. We ask that you attend 10 mins before your appointment time. You will be given any specific instructions in advance of your appointment.
We aim to carry out all investigations and have the results available for the specialist when they see you, usually in the same clinic appointment. You will be sent information regarding any specific investigations that you may require. Please note that on the day, all tests may not need to be carried out, depending on the information available to the specialist.
It is possible to have a flexible cystoscopy if you are having your period. If you feel it would cause additional discomfort, please contact us ahead of your appointment and we can rearrange it for you.
Yes, please still come to your appointment. However, it will not be possible to carry out a flexible cystoscopy if you have an active urinary tract infection (UTI). Please contact us ahead of your appointment if you are concerned.
You can drive after a flexible cystoscopy or ultrasound scan. Please let the staff know if you are feeling unwell after your procedures.
You will receive a discharge report with details of your consultation; this will also be sent to your GP. If you are referred for further investigations, we will send you a letter with the relevant contact details.
To ensure that we are talking to the correct person, we need to check your name, date of birth and part of your address with you. We will ask if you have any mobility issues or additional requirements prior to your appointment, to ensure that we are able to meet your needs when you attend for your appointment. We may ask a general question about your weight, to ensure that our equipment is appropriate for any investigations that you require.
