An Overview of Urology Services
Our community-based Urology service aims to enable you to have a consultation and diagnostic testing within one clinic visit.

You will have been referred to our Urology service as your doctor would like you to receive further investigations and a specialist opinion.

If you are suitable for our service, we will contact you to arrange an appointment and send you a confirmation letter along with information on how to prepare for your appointment.

Please make sure you read this and bring it along to your appointment.
It is advised that you bring a snack and drink with you to your appointment, particularly for patients using transport and/or are diabetic.
What is meant by Urology services?
Urology is the field of medicine that is associated with the diseases and disorders of the male and female urinary tract.

Urologists are doctors who specialise in the treatment of diseases and conditions affecting the urinary system, including the bladder, kidney, ureter, urethra, and adrenal glands.
What happens at the Urology clinic?
At the clinic you will be seen by our Urology Team.
Within our clinics we are able to provide ultrasounds, bladder scans, flow tests and flexible cystoscopies which is a camera inserted into the bladder.
Which one you have done will depend on what tests are required. You may require more than one of these.

The consultant who reviewed your initial referral will have chosen which tests you require so our team will be prepared and able to plan your care.
After you have had your tests, you will see the Urology specialist.
You may have been asked to keep a 3-day bladder diary, and the Urology specialist will ask to see this.

They will ask you some questions about your symptoms and how long they have been there.

They will also ask you about your medical history and if you are taking any regular medication.

It would be really helpful if you could bring a list of any medication you are taking.
The Urology Specialist will discuss your results with you and provide you with a management plan that will also be sent back to your doctor.

Should you need any further tests, these will be explained to you, and you will be referred on appropriately by our Patient Support team.
You may be given a lot of information during your visit, and it is not always easy to remember everything that the urologist has said to you.

We would therefore recommend that you bring somebody (like a family member or close friend) with you to your appointment.
