I love the fact we work in the community, bringing healthcare to the patient
Sally – Lead Sonographer
Tell us about your role and what you do within Cohese Healthcare
I first joined Cohese Healthcare as a Bank Sonographer around 15 years ago when there were just around 4 or 5 people in the company performing a small number of DVT scans a week, with no HCA or Nurse support. Over time I have seen the company evolve into the successful community health care provider it is today. I am now the Lead Sonographer and have been for a number of years. I spend my time both scanning in DVT and Urology clinics, and also managing the small but dedicated team of permanent and bank Sonographers. I also take an active role in the development of Clinical Governance processes and compliance with CQC requirements, developing audit and clinical assurance within Sonography practice.
What do you like most about your role?
I really enjoy the patient facing element, meeting 15+ very different people a day, being able to instantly give them a result and putting them on a pathway that will help their health improve is a really satisfying part of my role. Working with my supportive colleagues in different clinics, so no two days are the same. I love the fact we work in the community, bringing healthcare to the patient, they really appreciate what we do. Getting the feedback that we do reassures me that we are doing a very good job as a team as a whole, from the first contact with patient support through to getting their result in the clinic.

I love dragging my family off on trains! Whether its a day trip or further afield. This stems from my time spent travelling around 20 years ago when I went from Toronto to Vancouver and down to Mexico on trains and had such a fantastic time. More recently I took my mum on the Midland Pullman which was a fantastic day trip up to Carlisle with Silver Service along the route. Last Summer I persuaded my family on a longer backpacking trip we left Bristol and went to London, Brussels, Cologne, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Bremen and finally Amsterdam by 14 trains and 1 short ferry – We had a fantastic time but they have requested less trains next year!
